First Try

First Try

This is my foray into the blogosphere, not as a commenter, as I've been doing that for some years now, but about creating new posts about any old thing that comes to mind.

My initial idea was to make this the repository for my memories from early childhood on forward, but I may just keep that in the personal archives. I may share links that look to be newsworthy, or maybe random stuff about cars, travel, music, language, and whatever falls off the internet and hits me on the head. (Wish I'd come up with that, but someone already has a site covering it.)

Here's one that just came up today, and it was of interest because a columnist at the Wisconsin State Journal, George Hesselberg, wrote about it year after year. It was a tragic loss. A man's bones were found in a chimney at a music store on University Avenue in Madison, and for years his identity was unknown. Recently, forensic scientists were able to obtain enough DNA samples to connect with his ancestors and thereby to his family. After 35 years, searching DNA databases led to Ronnie Joe Kirk.

George Hesselberg retired from the State Journal in 2017. I hope he was able to find out about the first steps toward resolution of this longtime Madison mystery.
